One of the most common error messages on MSN when trying to open the program is the window poping up and delivering the following message:
EventType : apphang P1 : wlcomm.exe P2 : numbers P3 : numbers&letters P4 : numbers&letters
Px is different in all machines. Though a full MSN Messenger could be necessary it’s better to take the following steps, cleaning temp folders, files and Windows Live Messenger cache files first.
How to Fix “EventType apphang P1″ MSN Error Message.
Delete generic Temp Folders and Files from your PC.
- Type cleanmgr in the start search box and press enter.
- Choose My Files Only in the windows that has just popped up.
- Select only the following items to be deleted: Downloaded Program Files, Temporary Internet Files, Temporary files, Hibernation File Cleaner, Setup Log Files, Recycle Bin, Thumbnails.
- Click ok to run the cleaner
Remove MSN Messenger cache files.
- Copy, paste and press enter the following command line in the start search box:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\. Remove the Windows Live Contacts folder
Remove registry entries related to Messenger.
Before you do this, backup your registry and create a system restore point. More info here and here
- Type CMD in the start search box, once the command windows opens copy paste the following commands to delete msn messenger related registry entries;
REG DELETE “HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenger’ /f
REG DELETE HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger /f
REG DELETE HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger /f
REG DELETE “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Communications Clients\Shared” /f
REG DELETE HKCU\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL /f
